teaching

Arriving in France with a working knowledge of French, a degree in English with Linguistics from the University of Sheffield, and a passion for language and learning, it seemed like an obvious choice to work as an English teacher. I’ve been privileged enough to work in some very prestigious establishments, such as the Universités de Paris I (La Sorbonne), II (Assas) and IV (another Sorbonne!), the British Council, and INSA de Lyon, among many other institutions of secondary and higher learning, and with some incredible private students. My “pure teaching” work has evolved now, from Academic English, Business English, Engineering English, and Legal English, and tends to centre around exam preparation (TOEIC/TOEFL, BULATS/IELTS, FCE/CAE) and developing the tools for real intercultural communication (not just taking “culture = nationality / country of origin”, but recognising culture as ethnicity, political and religious beliefs and ideologies, socio-economic background, age, gender, sexual identity, physical and learning differences and identities, among others). Campus-based and face-to-face teaching opportunities possible in Lyon or Villeurbanne (Rhône), remote teaching available to anywhere in the world with an internet connection! For more details about one-to-one (or very small group) work, see training.
